Karly Sovereign, MA
(CCC, RCC)
Meet Karly Sovereign - a compassionate and dedicated counsellor passionate about helping individuals and families overcome life's challenges. After completing her bachelor's degree in Art and Science from Quest University, she pursued her dream of becoming a counsellor. Karly obtained her master's degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
She is in good standing as a professional member of the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association and the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Throughout her life, Karly has been inspired by the stories of her peers, acquaintances, classmates, and professors who have shared their experiences of adversity and resilience. Witnessing the power of listening and sharing experiences during moments of vulnerability has strengthened her belief in the transformative power of counselling.
As a previous student counsellor for the Ministry of Child and Family Development in the Child and Youth Mental Health department, Karly is grateful for the opportunity to help children, youth, and their families navigate life's challenges. Her experience includes working with individuals and families dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and relationship difficulties. Karly approaches her work with a trauma-informed perspective, valuing attachment and developmental theory principles. She believes these theories offer a framework for understanding and addressing the complex wounds of the past. Additionally, Karly is a proponent of EMDR, somatic therapy techniques, and the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, which she has witnessed to have a powerful transformative effect on her clients. She is dedicated to developing her skills and knowledge to support her clients better.
